THE CELTIC OFFICE FOR PEACE IN ILLNESS

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen

O God come to my assistance. O Lord make haste to help me (Thrice).

May the Holy Spirit distill on me down from out of Heaven to aid me and raise me, to bind my prayer firmly at the throne of the King of life.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. Thrice

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen

O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord cleanse us of our sins. O Master , pardon our transgressions, O Holy One , visit and heal our infirmities for Thy name’s sake.

Lord have mercy. Thrice

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen

Our Father who art in Heaven hallowed
Be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy
Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us
Our trespasses, as we forgive those who
Trespass against us. And lead us not into
Temptation but deliver us from the evil one.

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the
Glory of the Father and the Son and of The
Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen

O come let us worship God our king
O come let us worship and fall down before Christ our King and our God
O come let us worship and fall down before Christ Himself, our King and God

Prayer of St. Fursa

May the yoke of the law of God be upon this shoulder,
The coming of the Holy Spirit on this head,
The sign of Christ on this forehead,
The hearing of the Holy Spirit in these ears,
The smelling of the Holy Spirit in this nose,
The vision that the people of heaven have in these eyes,
The speech of the people of heaven in this mouth,
The work of the Church of God in these hands,
The good of God and of the neighbor in these feet.
May God dwell in this heart and this person
Belonging entirely to God the Father. Amen

Encompassing

The compassing of God be on me,
The compassing of the God of life

The compassing of Christ be on me,
The compassing of the Christ of love

The compassing of the Spirit be on me,
The compassing of the Spirit of Grace

The compassing of the Three be on me,
The compassing of the Three preserve me,
The compassing of the Three preserve me.

Psalm 139

O Lord, You have searched me and known me.
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
You understand my thought from afar.
You scrutinize my path and my lying down,
And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.
Even before there is a word on my tongue,
Behold, O Lord, You know it all.
You have enclosed me behind and before,
You laid Your hand upon me.
Such Knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is too high, I cannot attain it.

Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in Sheol,
Behold, You are there;
If I take the wings of the dawn,
If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,
Even there Your hand will lead me,
And Your right hand will lay hold of me.
If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me,
And the light around me will be night,”
Even the darkness is not dark to you,
And the night is as bright as day.
Darkness and light are alike to You.

For you formed my inward parts;
You wove me in my mother’s womb.
I will give thanks to You,
For I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from you,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the
Depths of the earth;
Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Your book were all written
The days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.

How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand.
When I awake, I am still with You.

… Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
And see if there be any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way.

O God come to my assistance. O Lord make haste to help me.

St Patrick’s Breastplate

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the threeness,
Through confession of the oneness
Of the Creator of Creation.

I arise today
Through the strength of Christ’s birth with His baptism,
Through the strength of His crucifixion with His burial,
Through the strength of His resurrection with His ascension,
Through the strength of His descent for the judgment of doom.

I arise today
Through the strength of the love of Cherubim,
In obedience of angels,
In the service of archangels
In hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
In prayers of patriarchs,
In predictions of prophets,
In preaching of apostles,
In faith of confessors,
In innocence of holy virgins,
In deeds of righteous men.

I arise today
Through the strength of heaven:
Light of sun,
Radiance of moon,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of wind,
Depth of sea,
Stability of earth,
Firmness of rock.

I arise today
Through God’s strength to pilot me:
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s way to lie before me,
God’s shield to protect me,
God’s host to save me
From snares of devils,
From temptations of vices,
From everyone who shall wish me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone and in multitude.

I summon today all these powers between me and those evils,
Against every cruel merciless power that may oppose my body and soul
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of witches, smiths and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts man’s body and soul.

Christ to shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that there may come to me abundance of reward.
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise,
Christ in every heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the threeness,
Through confession of the oneness,
Of the Creator of Creation.

Jesus the Encompassor

Jesus! Only—begotten Son and Lamb of God the Father,
Thou didst give the wine—blood of Thy body to buy me from the grave.
My Christ! My Christ! My shield, my encircler,
Each day, each night, each light, each dark.

Be near me, uphold me, my treasure, my triumph,
In my lying, in my standing, in my watching, in my sleeping.
Jesus, Son of Mary! My helper, my encircler,
Jesus Son of David! My strength everlasting;
Jesus Son of Mary! My helper, my encircler,
Jesus Son of David! My strength everlasting.

Stowe Missal

I have sinned, O Lord, I have Sinned,
Have mercy on my sins and save me,
Thou who didst guide Noah over the waves of the deluge,
Hearken unto me; Thou who didst call back Jonah from the abyss by a word,
Deliver me; Thou who didst hold out thy hand to Peter drowning, be abiding unto me; Christ Son of God, Who didst bring to pass the miracles of the Lord with our fathers, be propitious in our time, stretch forth Thy hand from on high, deliver us, O Christ. O Christ hear me, O Christ hear me, Christ have mercy.

(Moments of silence and the praying of our petitions…)

Prayer for Peace

The peace of God, the peace of men,
The peace of Columba kindly,
The peace of Mary mild, the loving
The peace of peace of Christ, King of tenderness,

Be upon each window, upon each door,
Upon each hole that lets in light,
Upon the four corners of my house,
Upon the four corners of my bed,
Upon the four corners of my bed;

Upon each thing my eye takes in,
Upon each thing my mouth takes in,
Upon my body that is of earth
And upon my soul that came from on high,
Upon my body that is of earth
And upon my soul that came from on high

The Pilgrims Safeguarding

I am placing my soul and my body
Under thy guarding this night, O Brigit,
O calm Foster—mother of the Christ without sin,
O calm Fostor—mother of the Christ of wounds.

I am placing my soul and my body
Under they guarding this night, O Mary,
O tender Mother of the Christ if the poor,
O tender Mother of the Christ of tears.

I am placing my soul and my body
Under Thy guarding this night, O God,
O Thou Father of help to the poor feeble pilgrims,
Protector of earth and heaven,
Protector of earth and heaven.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary! Hail, Mary!
Queen of grace, Mother of mercy;
Hail Mary, in manner surpassing,
Fount of our health, source of our joy

To thee we night and day,
Erring children of Adam and Eve,
Lift our voice in supplication,
In groans and grief of tears.

Bestow upon us, thou Root of Gladness,
Since thou art the cup of generous graces,
The faith of John and Peter and Paul,
With the wings of Ariel on the heights of the clouds,
Vouchsafe to us, thou golden branch,
A mansion in the Realm of peace,
Rest from the perils and stress of waves,
Beneath the shade of the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit…

Great Creedal Hymn

I believe, O God of all gods,
That Thou are the eternal Father of life;
I believe, O God of all gods
That thou art the eternal Father of love.
I believe, O Lord and God of the peoples,
That Thou art the creator of the high heavens,
That Thou art the creator of the skies above,
That thou are the creator of the oceans below.

I believe, O Lord and God of the peoples,
That thou art He who created my soul and set its warp.

Who created my body from dust and from ashes,
Who gave to my body breath and to my soul its possession.

I am giving Thee worship with my whole life,
I am giving Thee assent with my whole power,
I am giving Thee praise with my whole tongue,
I am giving Thee honor with my whole utterance.
I am giving Thee reverence with my whole understanding,
I am giving Thee praise with my whole fervor,
I am giving Thee humility in the blood of the Lamb.

I am giving Thee love with my whole devotion,
I am giving Thee kneeling with my whole desire,
I am giving Thee love with my whole heart,
I am giving Thee affection with my whole sense;
I am giving Thee my existence with my whole mind,
I am giving Thee my soul, O God of all gods. Amen

…Now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen

A Prayer for Grace

I am bending my knee
In the eye of the Father who created me,
In the eye of the Son who died for me,
In the eye of the Spirit who cleansed me,
In love and desire.

Pour down upon us from heaven
The rich blessing of Thy forgiveness;
Thou who art uppermost in the City,
Be thou patient with us.

Grant to us, Thou Savior of Glory,
The fear of God, the love of God, and His affection,
And the will of God to do on earth at all times
As angels and saints do in heaven;
Each day and night give us Thy peace.
Each day and night give us Thy peace
